George Orwell (Motihari, 1903 - London, 1950), nickname of Eric Arthur Blair, was a British writer and journalist. He cultivated almost all genres of the written word, developing everything from journalistic chronicles to essays, short stories and novels. His best-known works, coups of authority in the face of the threat of totalitarianism, are 1984 and Animal Farm, classics prescribed reading for the youth of the world.
