About the authors
Cierra Henderson is an experienced educator based in Massachusetts who has tutored students across all grade levels and subjects, with a specialization in SAT and test preparation as well as executive function support. Her tutoring background spans math, science, English, and history, along with standardized exams including the SAT, ACT, ISEE, and SSAT. She holds a certificate in educational consulting from the University of California, Irvine, and supports students through the full college application process, from school selection to essay development and final submission. Cierra's approach emphasizes individualized instruction, purposeful practice, and strategic skill building, delivered through a compassionate, student-centered learning experience.
John McDowell is the founder of Mr. John's Test Prep and editor of The Gauntlet series. He holds an MA in Applied Linguistics from Georgia State University and teaches full-time at a private high school's Learning Resource Center, where he focuses on executive function coaching. Over more than a decade and thousands of tutoring hours, he has guided students to perfect 800 scores in both the Math and Verbal sections of the SAT. He is a member of the National Test Prep Association.
