Focus was on assessing the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eimpact of Non-Tariff Barriers (NTBs) on the flow of goods from Nigeria to Liberia\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eand vice versa; how the NTBs are affecting the flow of goods and\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003epeople; what are the inhibiting factors, and make recommendations\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003efor consideration by policy makers in the trade sector of the two\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ecounties. Majority of the Liberian and Nigerian traders that travel\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eby road to do business are small (petty) business people. They\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003etravel with their goods or put them on the trucks from Nigeria to\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eLiberia. The question that the study tried to investigate was that\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\"why is it that these business people are not able to expand their\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ebusinesses and tap successfully on the big Nigerian market of\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eover one hundred million consumers?\" The study found out that\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ethe Non-tariff barriers are a contributing factor to restraining trade\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eflow within West Africa, especially between Liberia and Nigeria.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe NTBs are a binding constraint inhibiting trade and limiting\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003egains from trade. Among the NTBs affecting trade flow between\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eLiberia and Nigeria are the many checkpoints on the highway and\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eborder posts, the practice of extorting money from traders, and\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ethe high level of corruption and bribery at border custom posts on\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ethe trade route.
