A Criminal Justice Handbook is an easy to read manual for anyone who wants or needs to understand how the criminal justice system works in the United States. The players in the criminal justice systems, identified as "family members" are (1) the prosecutor (2) the defendant (3) the defense attorney (4) law enforcement, and (5) the bail bondsman. All five members of this criminal justice system come into play during any criminal proceeding, and some come into play when there is no arrest.
The prosecutor is given most of the attention because the prosecutor is the head of the family and has the most power. All members of the family profit from the criminal justice system, even the person being arrested can benefit from being involved (once arrested, a person can become an informant and allowed to have a criminal enterprise while law enforcement turn their heads).
This manual describes the purpose and function of each member of the criminal justice system as well as how each member interacts with the other.
