Although various libraries, museums, and archives in the U.S. contain documentary collections of interest to Paraguayanists, they are little known and thus underutilized. Whigham and Cooney help correct this problem. THOMAS WHIGHAM is Associate Professor of History at the University of Georgia. He is the author of The Politics of River Trade: Tradition and Development in the Upper Plata, 1780-1870 (1991) and is currently writing a history of the Paraguayan War.
JERRY W. COONEY is Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Louisville. He is the author of Economia y Sociedad en la Intendencia del Paraguay (1990) as well as many articles.
