To change and improve ourselves or our current environments, we must first go to other places. And when we go, we will need hospitality, which is the friendly and generous reception and entertainment of guests, visitors, or strangers.
Hospitality is much more than businesses, although it is often seen through their lenses, and hospitality as a business is what made the industry so prominent. However, hospitality, historically and in essence, is much more than that and nonfinancial rewards are what also help people involved with hospitality to endure. Hospitality is broad and every sustainable business can be seen as a hospitality business, making or at least trying to make the life of people easier.
Following the table of contents, the goals of this material are to introduce views of what hospitality is in essence and its fundamental importance, provide reflections on its critical challenges, spark interest in people to start or continue being involved with hospitality, stimulate solving its obstacles by critically thinking and innovating, taking risks and engaging in expanding its boundaries.
The value of this material is in the way it is organized, its broad coverage of hospitality still presented with simplicity, and the way it discusses complex points with proper brevity. It does not have the intention of finding definitive answers to the challenges presented but pointing the readers in relevant directions to help them select their own areas of focus.
This book is a careful compilation of around ten years of engagement with hospitality, from pieces of studies, data and original reflections from personal experiences. It skips some basics that come from many hospitality books and business administration literature and brings to reflection very important but hidden advanced topics in hospitality that are not often deeply or critically discussed as they should be.
