* Mitsuko Kasuga (1914-2002. Pen name: Akane) emigrated from Japan to Mexico at the age of 22 and cultivated her passion for tanka poetry throughout her life. She spent what little free time she had writing tanka. From vivid depictions of Mexican life to her feelings for her children and later on, her lost husband, her tanka are vibrant and vital. This book recounts a migrant's personal history and collects 113 of her tanka in Spanish and the original Japanese. Author Biography
Aiko Chikaba was born and raised in Osaka, Japan. She graduated from Kyoto University's faculty of letters. For nearly a decade Aiko was a director for NHK, Japan's premier TV channel. She moved to work in New York City where she also studied graphic design at NYU. In New York, she married a third-generation Japanese-Mexican, a grandson of Mitsuko Kasuga. The couple settled in San Francisco Bay Area where she currently works as a creative director.
