Innovative work with elderly people has a fundamentally new approach. It is no longer about one person or a team determining what is good for elderly people, but rather this approach assumes that the older people themselves know best what is good for them. The first step for a new form of ecclesiastical work with the elderly is therefore to determine the needs of the people, not just those who are already in the church community, but especially the needs of those who have had little or no contact with the community. Innovative Arbeit mit alter werdenden Menschen hat einen grundlegenden neuen Ansatz. Es geht nicht mehr darum, dass jemand einsam oder im Team feststellt, was fur die alter werdenden Menschen gut ist, sondern dieser Ansatz geht davon aus, dass die alteren Menschen selbst am besten wissen, was fur sie gut ist. Erster Schritt fur eine neue Form der kirchlichen Altenarbeit ist es also, den Bedarf der Menschen festzustellen und zwar nicht nur derer, die ohnehin schon in die Kirchengemeinde kommen, sondern insbesondere auch den Bedarf derer, die bisher wenig oder keinen Kontakt zur Gemeinde hatten. Wenn man da erst ins Gesprach und ins Planen kommt, kann viel geschehen - wie die Beispiele in diesem Band zeigen.
