An Artist's Journey is a new series of books featuring the art of Dick Heimbold. Dick is known in Southern California as a painter of just about everything: seascapes, landscapes, nocturnes, portraits, still lifes, and yes, even abstract works. Volume 1, entitled Memories of the California Coast, is the first of his series; it's a collection of works painted along the coast of California during the last decade. These works were mostly painted en plein air and Heimbold thinks of them as depicting the edges of our world--the edges of the land and the oceans. Places where the elements of creation impact each other with the most beautiful and often unexpected effects. He fills these pages with these shoreline images he captured in oil on canvas in colors full of life and he writes about the memories these works bring back. He shares with us: the joy of painting at many different shores, camaraderie of painting with artist friends, people at the coast, surprises along the way and insights into himself as an artist. His journey is enriched by his love of art. An enrichment available to all of us who care to bear witness to the magic of creation in the world around us.
