Rubén Darío (1867-1916) representa uno de los grandes hitos de las letras hispanas, no sólo por el carácter emblemático de algunos títulos--Azul... (1888), Prosas profanas (1896) y Cantos de vida y esperanza (1905)--sino por las dimensiones de renovación que impuso a la lengua española, abriendo las puertas a las influencias estéticas europeas a través de la corriente que él mismo bautizó como modernismo.
