Los Esterházy, una pareja excéntrica sin un pasado claro, llegan a un pueblo de la costa argentina y comienzan a regentar un antiguo hotel. Estos dos seres (y sus dos hijos, una niña y un niño más inquietantes y enigmáticos que ellos) producen el efecto de una partícula enfermiza que se introduce en las grietas de una sociedad pequeña y arrasa con su dinámica cotidiana, aparentemente calma. La pareja resulta ser un amplificador de los prejuicios, los deseos ocultos, las supersticiones, los temores y la violencia larvada en muchos de los habitantes del pueblo.

These two individuals (along with their two children--a girl and a boy even more unsettling and enigmatic than their parents) create the effect of a toxic speck infiltrating the cracks of a small community and disrupting its seemingly calm daily dynamics. The couple acts as an amplifier for the prejudices, hidden desires, superstitions, fears, and latent violence within many of the town's inhabitants. Arderá el viento /The Wind Will Blaze is the story of a slow unraveling and an agonizing peeling away that gradually reveals society's miseries. Under the Esterházys' influence, the strange coastal village slowly begins to expose the darkness flowing through its undercurrents, as if the new family was a malign pebble capable of bringing the true nature of its residents to light. Written in a sober yet intensely evocative style, the novel is a meticulous depiction of a deterioration that, though rooted in a specific country, ultimately serves as a distorted metaphor for the spirit of our times.
Author Biography
Guillermo Saccomanno (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1948) se dedicó durante años a la publicidad y al guion, colaborando con editoriales españolas, inglesas, italianas y norteamericanas. En 1979 publicó el libro de poemas Partida de caza, y en 1984 se estrenó en narrativa con la novela Prohibido escupir sangre, a la que siguieron Situación de peligro (1986; Premio Club de los XIII); Roberto y Eva (1989); El buen dolor (1999; Premio Nacional de Letras); la trilogía sobre la violencia política formada por La lengua del malón (2003), El amor argentino (2004) y 77 (2008; Premio Dashiell Hammett), que tuvo un gran éxito de crítica y público; El pibe (2006); El oficinista (2010; Premio Biblioteca Breve); Un maestro (2011; Premio Rodolfo Walsh); Cámara Gesell (2012; Premio Dashiell Hammett); Terrible accidente del alma (2014); Amor invertido (2015) y Los que vienen de la noche (2018), ambas en colaboración con Fernanda García Lao; Soy la peste (2020), y Mirlo (2024). Algunos de sus relatos han sido llevados al cine y han aparecido en varias antologías, y en 2023 su narrativa corta fue compilada en Cuentos reunidos. Además de los mencionados, ha recibido los premios Municipal de Literatura de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires de Cuento, Revista Crisis de Narrativa Latinoamericana y Konex de Platino 2014. En la actualidad dirige un taller de narrativa y colabora con el diario Página/12.
