by Alfred Becker (Author)
This book reflects my personal experiences, biases and limitations. It is not meant to establish dogma, promote specific products or predict the future of the field with confidence. If there is a single guiding principle behind this reflection, it is this: progress in medicine depends not only on discovery, but on curiosity, skepticism, compassion, and the willingness to question our own assumptions. In this personal reflection on more than 60 years in rheumatology, Alfred Becker, MD, traces the field's evolution from limited treatments to modern targeted therapies. Through clinical experience and historical perspective, he explores the uncertainties that remain and the enduring importance of humility, careful listening, and sound judgment. At its heart, this book is about the human side of medicine. Alfred Becker, MD, is a board-certified rheumatologist with over sixty years of clinical practice and teaching experience.
