Gears & gladiators collide in this ever-so-human tale about the Heavenly Host, in a time when innocence reigned-and evil was still an unused variable.
Nobody knows who Michael is. Not even Michael. He's endured horrors no indoctrinated, half-witted angel would ever believe. He's survived on scraps, been humiliated- painted by candlelight while hiding in holes. But when a mysterious cloaked figure rescues him, he's thrust into some perfect utopia he doesn't fit into.
Obsessed with revenge, he abandons his art to become the most vicious gladiator Heaven's pits have ever seen. But with no record of his existence, his path to vengeance seems bleak-until Lucifer offers a chance to fight for Universal Technologies, the secretive project on Eastern Island.
There he meets Trudy, a humble computer scientist, and quite possibly the only atheist in Heaven. When she uncovers a terrifying new threat, nobody will believe her. That is, until she meets the Precept and the Tinker-who somehow keep leading her back to Michael.
As the darkness closes in, can they unbury the mysteries that will save the worlds? Or will the gates of paradise-and everything else-crumble to ash?
