Ayala's Angel is a novel by Anthony Trollope published in 1881. The story follows the life of Ayala Dormer, a young woman who is determined to marry for love rather than money or social status. Despite her family's objections, Ayala refuses to marry a wealthy suitor and instead falls in love with a struggling artist named Hamel. However, when Hamel's fortunes improve, Ayala's aunt tries to force her into a marriage with a wealthy man. Ayala must navigate the complexities of Victorian society and choose between true love and financial security. The novel explores themes of love, social status, and the role of women in society. Trollope's vivid descriptions of Victorian England and his complex characters make Ayala's Angel a compelling read for fans of classic literature. It was suggested to Lucy before she had been long in Kingsbury Crescent that she should take some exercise. For the first week she had hardly been out of the house; but this was attributed to her sorrow. Then she had accompanied her aunt for a few days during the half-hour's marketing which took place every morning, but in this there had been no sympathy. Lucy would not interest herself in the shoulder of mutton which must be of just such a weight as to last conveniently for two days. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
