When Bigalow Love is arrested for murdering a fortune teller, his husband, a young dancer named Jonathan, can't believe it. Bigalow claims that while wearing a Blue Velveteen Dormouse costume, a spell forced him to swap souls during the crime. Because seventeen other matching magic costumes exist, anyone could be the real killer. To prove his husband's innocence, Jonathan must put on a spare body-swapping costume and hunt for the truth.
Aided by a nonbinary paranormal investigator and a psychic Basset Hound named Doobers, Jonathan launches into a series of risky, international body swaps to track down the missing garments. The investigation pulls him into the heart of a soul-trafficking conspiracy known as the Constellation of Nine. Soon, Jonathan begins to question Bigalow's involvement in this dark spiritual realm.
Before her death, the slain fortune teller predicted that only a dance choreographed by Jonathan-using all eighteen costumes-could solve her murder.
