Memories of a Legend is more than just another story about legendary football coach Bobby Bowden. Its unique in that it's a rare and stirring collection of memories of several members of his first teams at a small college in southern Georgia. It covers a period in the 1950's when coaching and playing football was much more grueling and diverse than it is today. Its also when Coach Bowden discovered that he had to be a father figure, a drill sergeant, an educator, a mentor, and a spiritual guide as well as a coach to all of his players. It covers an important turning point in his life when he had to reconcil his dreams of being a football coach with his Christian values, and when he decided that he would use coaching to inspire as many young men as possible to live every day of their lives by the rules of a higher power and to set high moral and ethical standards for themselves in everything they do. It's also about a period in the life of this living legend that has seldon been mentioned or explored until now, and it depicts the struggles that he had, on and off the gridiron, when he was just starting his journey into greatness.
Author Biography
Jim Bowen, the author, played football under the supervision of Coach Bowden at South Georgia College, and considers himself fortunate to have learned many life long lessons from this experience. Since his graduation from South Georgia College, the author has been privileged to have maintain a close personal relationship with Coach Bowden and many of his former teammates. It is this relationship that inspired him to write Bobby Bowden: Memories of a Legend and His Boys from South Georgia College.
