by Bill Baynes (Author)
Bill Baynes has written the most original baseball story since Field of Dreams. Bunt! is a taut tale of what happens when one new player tweaks one of the sport's oldest skills. A sharp-eyed rookie develops such precise bat control that he can bunt a baseball just about anywhere he wants it. He can hop it. Stop it. Even spin reverse-English on it. What happens? Insane infielders, angry pitchers, hysterical chanting fans and a surprising breakout into a late-season California League pennant race. ESPN sportscaster Mike Patrick says, "Anyone who loves baseball will love this book." Written plainly for young adults who may not read all that much, Bunt! is a crossover novel full of game action and brimming with baseball lore. A wily skipper, a by-the-rules coach, and a team of upward-bound hopefuls and downward-slipping veterans inherit a young unknown with game-changing abilities. The chill of autumn whispers beneath the roar of raucous fans as a season climaxes into a facedown between arch-rivals.
