Theologians have battled over questions about speaking in tongues. Was this a rare charism for a bygone era? Is this a manifestation available for only a select few? Are tongues human languages or, perhaps, angelic languages? Do tongues have a sign value in relation to a baptism in the Spirit? What is the purpose of tongues? Celebrating Our Lord and Christ: A Biblical Theology of Tongues addresses the difficult questions, but it does much more than that. It lays a biblical foundation for this charismatic expression in the Old Testament and traces the christological thread that unites the New Testament occurrences of tongues. This Christ-centered exploration leads to the conclusion that tongues are a celebration of our Lord and Christ.
Author Biography
Brian W. Lidbeck is Academic Dean of Northpoint College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is the author of Resurrection and Spirit: From the Pentateuch to Luke-Acts (2020) and Making Sense of Speaking in Tongues (2025). He holds a PhD in biblical interpretation and theology from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary.
