Two international referents of contemporary thinking come together in this book to talk about far-reaching issues that affect humanity and discuss alternatives for the future. On the one side, José "Pepe" Mujica, former President and former guerrilla member who achieved immense international notoriety for his message of austerity, wisdom, and common sense. On the other, Noam Chomsky, the intellectual who revolutionized linguistics to address a wide variety of profoundly current humanistic and philosophical topics. Mexican documentary filmmaker Saúl Alvídrez managed to bring them together and create an atmosphere conducive to this fruitful exchange of ideas. Reflections rise from this gathering of voices, providing an approach to the main issues the world is dealing with today: the consequences of climate change, the evils of politics, corruption, populisms, the crisis of capitalism and its successive mutations, the logic behind a market-driven economy, and production problems, among many others. Faced with the threat of a civilizing collapse and the contradictions of left-wing alternatives, Chomsky and Mujica point to those values that must be considered in order to advance towards sustainable change. Author Biography
Saúl Alvídrez: Activista y documentalista mexicano nacido en 1988. Inspirado en Julian Assange, en el año 2012 fue el primer miembro y fundador del movimiento estudiantil #Yo Soy 132, también conocido como La Primavera Mexicana. Este fenómeno estudiantil, el más grande en México durante el siglo XXI, combatió la manipulación mediática organizando movilizaciones masivas que unieron a universitarios de instituciones públicas y privadas a nivel nacional.
Su activismo lo llevó a refugiarse en el sur latinoamericano por varios años, en donde inició la filmación de su primer documental, el cual se estrenará posteriormente a la publicación de este libro. El largometraje está protagonizado por el intelectual estadounidense Noam Chomsky, el expresidente uruguayo José Pepe Mujica, y cuenta con la colaboración especial del músico inglés Roger Waters (cofundador de la banda Pink Floyd) como narrador. Convencido de que las generaciones millennial y centennial han heredado una civilización ecológica, económica, política y socialmente insostenible, Alvídrez afirma que su misión es intentar amplificar la conversación pública entre los jóvenes y enfocarla a la solución de problemas globales.
