Hard as it may be to believe, there are no qualifications to be on a public school board, and there is no compensation. Unless your hand is under the table for some clandestine remuneration, why bother? For the few and far between honest politician, the time commitment is substantial, and the magnitude of responsibility is overwhelming. Criticism is abundant. The operative question follows: "Is there a better way to govern our school districts?"In volume I, you learned about the actions taken by a democratically elected board of directors whose job it was to manage the affairs of the Wilkes-Barre Area School District on behalf of the public. The people of the district still see this as a struggle for safe, enduring, neighborhood schools. In this Volume II, with the project well underway, the people continue to ask and we continue to help answer the major question of the day: Is there a better way to govern our public school districts? In this volume, we offer additional proof of poor governance as we offer suggestions for how to make life better for the Wilkes-Barre Area School District and all school districts in the country who seek better governance.In WB Area, and many other districts, this has a sense of urgency because We can't wait until there are no WB high schools and the tax burden is unsustainable.
