The paths of Inspector Valentina Negro and criminologist Javier Sanjuán cross once again. Magistrate Rebeca de Palacios receives a strange email from an unknown sender: her daughter Marta, a young drama student, has been kidnapped in Rome. Rebeca must declare the man she is about to judge innocent--or Marta will die. But Rome is not only home to a kidnapper. The city, immersed in its carnival celebrations, is shaken by the discovery of several corpses. A serial killer is staging martyrdom scenes of saints in each of his murders. Criminologist Javier Sanjuán travels to Rome to investigate, as the theatrical nature of the killings reminds him too much of "The Artist's" work.
