She was born in Tuskegee, Alabama in 1913 and married Raymond Parks in 1932. Two years after the Montgomery bus boycott, in 1957, she moved to Detroit, Michigan. In 1987, she co-founded the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self-Development.
