Different brains bring different strengths: depth of focus, pattern recognition, creativity, precision, loyalty, originality of thought. These strengths emerge in environments that fit. Home is the one environment families can control.
Designing Homes for All Brains: Parents and Carers Edition introduces the Ecological Inclusion Framework (EIF) - a practical, evidence-informed approach to how environments shape learning, regulation, wellbeing, and everyday life. Drawing on neuroscience, developmental psychology, and sensory science, educator and applied neuroscience specialist Zoe Aspinall translates the research into language families can use. The book pairs practical strategies with quick-reference summaries, myth-busting insights, and optional deep-dives for readers who want to follow the evidence further.
Six interconnected ecological domains, underpinned by the Body Ecology, give parents and carers a structured way to read their home: where it supports a child's nervous system, where it overloads it, and which small design shifts produce the largest effect on daily life.
This is a book about mechanism. Why does an evening unravel? Why does morning take three hours? Why does the same lunchbox work on Tuesday and fail on Thursday? Neuroscience answers more of these questions than most families realise, and the answers point consistently to the environment. Inclusion is design. Home is where it begins.
