A witchy field guide to the hidden world of birdsong, moon cycles, and stargazing. Discover ways to reconnect, even in our most densely populated cities.
What happens when the life you've built no longer feels like the life meant for you? When you feel drawn towards something wilder and more alive? Anna McCracken felt a calling to not just change her life, but to run away with the wolves. Clearly, this was a terrifying prospect, so she ignored it. Yet despite her best efforts, the pull only grew stronger, until she took to the road. From the remote deserts of Australia to the bustle of New York City, Do Wildness is about what happens when we start to notice what modern life so often trains us to overlook: birdsong, moon cycles, seasons and soils, rhythms and relationships. When instead of rushing forward, we remember the old stories didn't teach us about perfection, but participation. With 10 practises to help us reconnect with the natural world and our place within it, Do Wildness offers a way back to aliveness, beauty, and belonging. So come now, there's a fairy wren behind the hedgerow, ready to tell you a story...Author Biography
Anna McCracken is an Australian writer, wilderness guide, and systems thinker. With degrees in social work and masters in human rights law, she has spent over a decade working at the intersection of communities, government and business. Across that time, Anna has lived nomadically from her home on wheels throughout remote Australia, following something wilder, more relational and true. Shaped by years of wandering, chronic illness, queerness, and paying close attention to the living world, her writing returns again and again to the places where story, belonging and repair meet.
