La naturaleza acompaña al ser humano desde sus inicios, y las plantas han servido siempre de alimento, condimento, adorno y medicina hasta el punto de que no se entendería nuestra vida y evolución como especie sin ellas.
Nature has accompanied humanity since the beginning, and plants have always served as food, seasoning, decoration, and medicine--to the point that our life and evolution as a species would be incomprehensible without them. In this book, Jessica Ramos, creator of the TodoEspecias brand, selects forty plants and spices and delves deep into their roots to recount their origins, the legends that have accompanied them throughout history, real-life episodes in which they played a leading role, and of course, their main uses in cooking and self-care. *** "In some villages in northern Morocco, when the rains receded and the sun once again gilded the walls, the women would go out into the fields to gather marjoram. They would cut tender branches and hang them on the whitewashed walls, letting them dry in the gentle evening breeze. They weren't for cooking. Nor for prayers. They were for dreams. They said that if you slept with a sprig under your pillow, that night the face of the one who loved you in secret would be revealed to you. You just had to close your eyes, inhale the plant's faint scent, and let the soul--more honest than reason--do the rest. Many did it in silence. Sometimes out of nostalgia. Sometimes out of desire. Like someone peeking through a half-open door to see if someone is waiting on the other side. They hoped to see the face of the one who thought of them in secret. But what few imagined was that sometimes their own reflection would appear. Because marjoram does not obey desires. It obeys the truth. And the truth for many of them was that the love they longed for from others was the same love they had long denied themselves."
