An electrical machine is a device that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy or vice versa. Major types of electrical machines are generators, motors and transformers. An electric generator is a type of electrical machine that works on the principle of electromagnetic induction. It consists of two main components which are a stator and a rotor. Generators can be classified as AC generators and DC generators. The electric motor converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. It can be classified into AC motors and DC motors. The transformer is a static electrical device that transfers electric power from one circuit to another circuit.
