A bold framework for truth, trauma, and reparative justice.
Enemies of the Original Man presents a bold clinical and legal argument for reparative justice. Kenneth Basnight introduces two interlocking frameworks-Post-Traumatic Colonization Syndrome (PTCS) and Post-Traumatic Slave Master Syndrome (PTSMS)-to diagnose the enduring psychological effects of colonization on both the oppressed and the oppressor. Moving from theology and history to psychiatry and international law, the book reframes the transatlantic slave trade as an ongoing system of warfare and argues for reparations, accountability, and self-determination. This is not a plea for recognition. It is a diagnostic assessment and a legal brief.
