Phyllis Green's journey takes you from her humble start at a small N.J. radio station to the heights of ABC-TV network television, then to the depths of the unemployment line. After age 50, she rises to successful entrepreneurship by building a Florida ad agency and selling it to WPP Worldwide, the world's largest marketing and communications services agency. Her resilience survives the sexism and anti-Semitism of network sales in the 1980s as she meets many fascinating and famous people who help her focus on success. Author Biography
Phyllis Green started her career at a small 250-watt radio station in Trenton, New Jersey. Her first leap to a major market catapulted her to a 100,000-watt station in Miami, Florida. As she focused on steady, upward advancement in the broadcast industry, the position of Promotion Manager/Weekend Weather Girl at a Miami TV station initiated the launch of her television career. After four years as a producer at the ABC-TV affiliate in Indianapolis, she seized the opportunity to capitalize on her broadcast skills by creating a new position of Media Manager at a large chain of retail department stores headquartered in the city. This proved to be exceptionally fortuitous, as just a few years later, large TV networks sought out those few professionals who could navigate the disparate worlds of broadcasting and retail advertising. Serving first at the NBC-TV affiliate in Boston, and then joining ABC-TV in New York, Phyllis was a pioneer in creating and developing retail advertising campaigns throughout the country. Yet after the Capital Cities acquisition of ABCTV, her world changed overnight. She was fired. Phyllis decided to become an entrepreneur. Forming Green Advertising in 1986 offered her a unique challenge: to merge her sales, production and advertising skills to build a small business. This sub chapter-S corporation would grow to become one of the most respected advertising agencies in the state of Florida. Green Advertising continually expanded its client base and billings through the 1990s, and was named by Florida Trend magazine as one of Florida's 100 Fastest Growing Companies. By 1999, Green's growth led to the firm's acquisition by WPP Worldwide, the world's largest marketing and communication agency. Presently, Phyllis Green serves as Chairman of Green Advertising, the parent company of GreenAd. com; Stalder/Green Advertising in Orlando, and VidPop Productions, a video production complex in Boca Raton.
