Closing Geometry Skill Gaps While Preparing Learners For CASAS, TABE, HiSET, CTE, or GED Math Exams
This geometry textbook is designed to close learners' skill gaps in geometry and prepare them for the CASAS, TABE, HiSET, CTE, and GED exams. The book uses Singapore math reasoning methods and follows CCR Standards to help learners understand core math concepts that meet the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) expectations.
For easy learning and teaching, the book is divided into five (5) main chapters that cover the following topics:
- Geometric shapes and their attributes
- Geometric measurement and dimensions
- Trigonometry
- Relating area to the operations of multiplication and addition
- Drawing and identifying lines and angles
- Graphing points on coordinate planes
- Congruence
- Pythagorean Theorem
The chapters include mathematical thinking, reasoning, key concepts, and terminology. Each chapter is divided into several sections.
- Each section includes a list of key geometric terms and concepts that students should understand to succeed in their exams.
- Each section provides step-by-step instructions that learners can easily follow, along with a practice exercise of ten questions.
- The practice exercises include 2-step and 3-step problems that require mathematical thinking and reasoning. They take various formats, such as multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, matching, ordering, and drawing or plotting. Answer keys are given at the end of each section.
- At the end of each chapter, learners are given 10 complex or multi-step word problems that summarize the sections' content. The problems require students to understand all the content to solve them.
- The last chapter also includes 15 complex word problems covering content from all previous chapters.
This textbook enables math instructors to guide learners with concise explanations, step-by-step instructions, and sufficient practice to master math concepts. For example, the tasks presented in this book aim to:
- Make learners think more deeply about specific math concepts and improve their mathematical thinking and reasoning skills.
- Help learners connect their math learning with the real world.
- Create opportunities for learners to read, write, and discuss math concepts.
