Is your child getting ready for heart surgery? Are they feeling a little nervous?
Written by a board-certified anesthesiologist with 15] years of experience, Getting Ready for My Heart Surgery is an interactive book that helps reduce anxiety through a better understanding of the surgical process!
Forget confusing doctor-talk-this book tells kids what they need to know, no fluff, no drama. What's an ECG anyway? How about an echo test or chest x-ray? Relax, they're simpler than they sound. Cold stickers, squishy jelly, big cameras, and butterfly needles (really!)-the tests aren't fun, but they're doable.
Kids learn what happens before surgery, during surgery (hint: dreamland), and after surgery (tubes, catheters, soreness, and all). Also included-tips on how to make veins pop out (in a good way) and how hugging your favorite stuffed animal or pillow can ease aches after surgery.
With space for writing questions, checking off preferences, and planning comfy stuff to bring, this book helps kids take charge. Surgery isn't exactly cool, but knowing what's coming can be helpful.
Inside you'll find:
- Simple, kid-friendly explanations about heart surgery and tests
- Easy tips to make hospital visits less stressful
- Places for kids to write their questions, check off their preferences, and circle their experiences
Their scar? Proof they're brave, strong, and totally amazing!
