When fate is a curse, what risks would you take for freedom?
After decades of being plagued by monsters, magic, and pirates, there is finally peace within the Realm. Humans are protected within the borders of Oceara while non-human creatures are hunted down with iron force. Which is why Princess Annalise knows there must be something wrong with her. Ever since the disappearance of her childhood friend, Annalise has wondered about life beyond the palace walls. However, loyalty to her sister and the ever-watchful eye of her parents has made the realm outside of Oceara feel like an impossible dream. Resigned to her arranged marriage with a stranger, Annalise does her best to hide her desire for freedom. Until a strange prophecy offers an alternative.
Avoiding a dark fate of his own, Tristan Barry has usurped his old captain with the help of his friend Caspian Bolton. Despite having their own ship and power, the two pirates are far from a happy ending. Cursed by a vindictive fae, Tristan and Caspian must wrestle against bloodthirsty desires while trying to retain their humanity. As if sailing into a kingdom notorious for hating and killing anything other than human wasn't bad enough, Tristan is forced to face a past he's always tried to forget when Annalise joins their crew.
Now, the unlikely team must work together to escape the wrath of Oceara and survive the dangerous realm around them. Confused as to why Tristan hates her, Annalise tries to uncover the secrets of the past, and in turn realizes just how cruel her family's reign has been. Annalise must reevaluate everything she was taught, including Oceara's stance on the dangers of nonhumans. Especially once she learns that the friendly pirate Caspian might not be as human as she once thought.
With everything and everyone out for their blood, Annalise, Tristan and Caspian must overcome their differences if they want to survive.
