When George Alexander West escapes prison, Detective Tara Sullivan has to find the killer-and the man she loves.
Coming out of a two-year coma hasn't changed anything for West. His split personalities are still at odds: Alex is fighting with who he is and against George, the bad side of him who keeps gaining the upper hand. It's George who seduces a nurse into helping him, George who swindles and lies and fools everyone in the way...and it's only Tara who knows him well enough to stop him.
That is, if she can catch up to him first.
West's prison break wasn't his only vanishing act. No matter how close Tara gets, he always has a way out, because he knows her just as well as she knows him. He knows she's after him, what she'll do to put him back behind bars, and that she's not alone in her pursuit.
Tara teams up with Drew Thompson, who has his own history with the murderer. They all want justice, closure, retribution-but George wants freedom. He'll do whatever it takes to outrun the detectives' efforts including murder, and overpower Alex's influence.
As West grapples with the warring halves of himself, Tara must consider the question: What is man's true nature? Does the good within us prevail, or will George's evil triumph, and take Alex away from her forever?
