This isn't a book about being the fun grandparent. It's a book about being the intentional one. Because no algorithm, no influencer, and no cultural current can override a grandparent who shows up on purpose.
The grandparents who leave a lasting faith legacy aren't the ones who love their grandchildren most, they're the ones who show up with intention. They pay attention. They tell the God stories before the window closes. They partner with their adult children instead of competing with them. They understand that this season of life isn't a bonus round. It's one of the most significant assignments God has ever handed them.
Grandparenting On Purpose is for grandparents who are done coasting and are ready to be counted. In these twelve chapters, Jim Wideman - children's ministry pioneer, pastor, and grandfather of three - maps out a practical, faith-filled approach to one of the most important roles you'll ever play. You'll learn how to:
- See each grandchild as God sees them: uniquely designed, purpose-carrying, and in need of your unique voice
- Navigate boundaries with your adult children, without losing your influence
- Transfer living faith rather than a family religion
- Use storytelling, technology, and everyday moments as tools for legacy
- Leave something in your grandchildren that will outlast you by generations
Each chapter includes a Reflection & Application section. The book is filled with more than 50 Prayers to pray over your kids and grandkids.
