Greg Girard Photographs 1972?2026 is published by The Magenta Foundation in partnership with The Polygon Gallery. The publication expands on the first-ever career survey of Greg Girard, one of Canada's most important contemporary photographers, at The Polygon in Summer 2026. It traces Girard's deep engagement with the urban landscape, beginning with his early work in Vancouver and continuing through his decades living and working in Asia, where he documented cities such as Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Shanghai, capturing their shifting social and architectural fabric from the 1970s onward. His images from this period reveal cities in flux and a photographer attuned to both human presence and architectural change, offering an intimate yet expansive portrait of urban transformation. From Vancouver to Asia's largest and most dynamic cities, the publication traces Girard's evolution over more than five decades. This 356-page hardcover features more than 200 photographs alongside a foreword by Reid Shier, an introduction by Elliott Ramsey, and texts by Roy Arden, Hà ?ào, and Silke Schmickl.
Author Biography
Roy Arden Roy Arden has been active as an internationally exhibiting artist since the late 70s. He has played a major part in the development of Vancouver as an internationally recognized centre for the production of contemporary photo art. Regularly seen in significant local, national and international exhibitions, Arden's work is included in important museum collections in Canada, Europe and the U.S.A., including The Art Gallery of Ontario, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Staatsgalerie in Stuttgart.
