The ambulance siren sounded loudly as it whisked Crystal Lee to the emergency room at lightning speed.
The trip was due to the first of two overdoses of pills. Life was touch and go as they hooked her up to life support. Her oldest son, Michael, had to make the decision to let her live or let her go.

The immediate family of four was very tight-knit. It had been said it was such that they wouldn't let anyone else in. Hence, marriages for Crystal Lee were difficult at best.
The four Phillips were of European origin. Leo's family was Scotch-Irish and Danish. His grandmother Leslie came over on "the boat" to America. Along with her possession was a handmade cedar chest. Crystal Lee still has it.
Rose's family was from Strasburg, Germany. Her maiden name was Dailey. The family homesteaded so many acres in rural Kanas. Her early life was spent doing farm chores, which were hard work.
Follow Crystal Lee as she devoted herself as a mother to her two sons. A stay-at-home mother reminiscent of post-WWII, she was lucky to have the time and resources to raise them into productive, working men who contribute to society.
