'How the West Was Sung: The Story of the American Cowboy and His Songs' is an open-and-teach unit that details the rich history and music of the American cowboy. Designed for music teachers, elementary classroom teachers, and home school parents, the unit includes lessons, song sheets, accompaniment scores and black line drawings of cowboy life. In addition, there are exams, teaching suggestions, helpful tips on how to organize a program presentation, and online resources to help you expand your lessons. Your students will discover the cowboy's origins on the rancheros of Mexico, ride along on the longhorn cattle drives, and learn about the cowboys of legend and the silver screen.
Author Biography
Leslie Denning is a Missouri-certified music teacher who has taught in public schools and now operates her private music studio, Second Street Music Academy. She received a B.S. in Education and Music Education from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO, and an M.A. in Music Education from Central Missouri University in Warrensburg, MO. A native of the West, Leslie grew up in Denver, CO, and now resides with her husband in the Missouri Ozarks.
