Teachers all know students who won't take No for an answer, who pester and whine for the things they want, or who get emotional and angry during disagreements with adults and peers.
In this companion guide to her picture book, I Just Don't Like the Sound of NO!, part of the BEST ME I Can Be! series, author Julia Cook has created 24 activities for students in grades K through 6 classrooms that teach the important social skills of how to "Accept 'No' for an Answer" and "How to Disagree Appropriately." In addition to being challenging and entertaining, call upon students to use imagination, teamwork, and creativity to complete them. They also exercise children's observation, reading, writing, thinking, and decision-making skills.
Each activity provides a list of materials when needed and teacher instructions. The activity guide also includes a digital content link for access to reproducible handouts, worksheets, and reward coupons.
Author Biography
Julia Cook, a former school counselor and teacher, has written many books on behavior and health for children. She has received the Association for Educational Publishers Distinguished Achievement Award, and her books have been honored by the National Parenting Center and Mom's Choice Awards. Her storybooks show children how to make a positive difference in their lives by teaching them lifelong problem-solving skills. Her Best Me I Can Be series of children's books teaches essential social skills, such as Accepting No for an answer and Disagreeing Appropriately. Julia's ultimate goal is to make a positive difference in the lives of children, parents and educators by teaching lifelong problem-solving skills to kids.
