The journey of my poetry began in the 1970s, sparked by heartfelt moments like writing a poem for my mother's birthday and later for my parents' anniversary. Throughout the years, I have penned verses for various occasions, including a poem that served as an invitation to our Calvert High School reunion in the 1980s. My poetry has evolved to encompass a wide range of themes, from joyful songs for my grandchildren to poignant reflections on family tragedies.
In recent years, the volume of my poetry has surged, particularly as I grappled with the complexities of caring for loved ones with dementia. Poems such as Accepting, Sunrise, Sunset, and Weed and Me emerged from this experience, compelling me to share my work with others. I believe these poems can foster understanding and compassion for those affected by this devastating condition.
Dementia transforms individuals, erasing memories and altering personalities. My hope is that readers will find comfort and insight in my words, learning to respond with love and patience.
