This title combines original research, case studies, and synoptic analysis to cover highly charged topics in America today. Each chapter in this edited volume offers conditional responses to three essential questions about the disciplinary status of homeland security: What are the domain's central problems? What research methods are best able to address those problems? What has research contributed to addressing homeland security's core problems? The volume is divided into two main sections. Part I: Immigration and Management covers topics such as: Immigration enforcement Illegal crossing Border security Gaps in securing the borderland Part II: The Resilient Homeland addresses issues such as Lessons learned from the pandemic Disaster recovery and preparedness Public health Cybersecurity This publication bridges knowledge from various topics related to homeland security into one volume.

Back Jacket

Immigration, the Borderlands, and the Resilient Homeland adds to the stream of rigorous homeland security research. The book brings conceptual, methodological, and practical advances to the quest for relevance and utility in homeland security scholarship. This book will be of most interest to policymakers and to readers who care whether homeland security is an academic discipline. The chapters are about subjects that have a claim to be at the center of the homeland security project. These topics include immigration, border management, international trade, transnational crime, globalization, resilience, public health, disaster recovery, and cyber security." --CHRISTOPHER BELLAVITA, PhD, academic programs director, Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense & Security, and editor in chief, Homeland Security Affairs "Immigration, the Borderlands, and the Resilient Homeland is a significant contribution to U.S. homeland security studies. The textbook effectively juxtaposes border security and immigration with societal resilience and current events, including the COVID-19 pandemic. This text offers unique value to college courses that seek to integrate theoretical, conceptual, and practical approaches to border security and immigration policy." --JOHN COMISKEY, EdD, associate professor, Monmouth University, and editor, Journal of Security, Intelligence, and Resilience Education Immigration, the Borderlands, and the Resilient Homeland combines original research, case studies, and synoptic analysis covering highly charged topics in America today. The volume is divided into two sections. The first section, "Immigration and Border Management," combines immigration and the borderlands, while the second section covers topics such as the resilient citizen, community disaster recovery, and lessons learned from the pandemic.
