Rambling, by definition, is proceeding without a specific purpose or direction while straying from subject to subject. Jaunty Hair: Ramblings from Nowhere will take you somewhere, somewhere you've been before, somewhere you've been meaning to get back to.
For more than twenty years, Josh Ellis has been writing a column for the Burke County Tribune, a weekly newspaper in "upstate" North Dakota. In Jaunty Hair, some of these essays have been rounded up into a single volume.
Many of the essays are rooted in the Midwest but the topics they explore are universal to all us human types; living with purpose and meaning, holding grief and humor in the same heart, the impact and power of music, gratitude for the people that form and inform our lives, and what it means to do the work, to show up to an empty page and fill it with ramblings for over twenty years.
