English summary: This book should primarily motivate the reader to easily learn Kurdish and becoming familiar with the language. The Kurdish basic vocabulary offers more than 1,600 words, an extensive selection of the most common words and sayings in Kurdish. The basic vocabulary is well-arranged and addresses common topics. The single chapters are constructed independently and may be used individually, depending on particular interests. The German and Kurdish Index allows easy recognition of words. In the INFO boxes, helpful insider information about the country and people as well as the customs and culture of the Kurds can be found. Author Biography
Isabella Berivan was born in Austria to Austrian and Kurdish parents. Although German is primarily her mother language and her home is basically in Austria, several times in her childhood she spent a few months in the Kurdish highlands which left a lasting impression upon her. It was then that she developed a great affection for the Kurdish language! Her father being a highly-educated Kurdish man, there was always access to literature and languages at home. Over the years, however, there was a great desire to become more intensively involved with her paternal cultural heritage and language. Isabella Berivan is married with two children, is a primary school teacher, is almost finished her bachelor's in Psychology and is currently working on her first book of poetry in Kurdish-German language.
