Ante acontecimientos como el del 26 de septiembre de 2014, ningún país puede seguir adelante sin conocer la verdad a la que tienen derecho las víctimas y la sociedad.
Los hechos de Iguala nos obligan a reflexionar sobre el momento que vive México: retratan con crudeza la degradación de las instituciones cuya obligación es procurar justicia y protegernos; al mismo tiempo nos retratan como sociedad, muestran cuáles son nuestros temores más profundos, pero también nuestras esperanzas.
"In the face of events like those of September 26, 2014, no country can move on without knowing the truth, to which the victims and society are owed. The events of Iguala oblige us to reflect on the current life of Mexico: they paint a raw portrait of the degradation of the institutions whose obligation is to secure justice and protect us. At the same time they depict us as a society; they show us our deepest fears but also our hopes. In the midst of the polarization and solitude that one experiences in a country like Mexico, people have started to forget that the pain that injustice provokes in others must be our own pain. In this investigation, readers follow the labyrinth of this case, its traps, its darkness, and its light. They will get to Juan N. Álvarez Street, see the bullet shells and the sandals scattered on the ground. They will enter the Raúl Isidro Burgos school, listen to the intense voices of its students, sometimes full of courage and pride, other times full of fear and loneliness. They will travel to sordid places where infamous torture was carried out to fabricate guilty parties, as well as the offices of top officials where the cover-ups were implemented. They will also hear the testimonies of those who received juicy offers of money to take blame or blame others, and thus close this nasty case. Finally, in the voices of the witnesses they will glimpse the desperation of the victims during the hours of their executions, the courage of the survivors, and the tears of those who disappeared." -Anabel Hernández
Author Biography
Anabel Hernández es una las periodistas de investigación más importantes en México. En 2002 ganó el Premio Nacional de Periodismo por su investigación sobre el llamado toallagate. En 2003 Unicef le dio un reconocimiento por una serie de reportajes sobre la esclavitud sexual infantil en Estados Unidos. En 2012 la Asociación Mundial de Periódicos y Editores de Noticias (WAN-IFRA) le otorgó el Premio Pluma de Oro de la Libertad. En 2014 obtuvo el premio Voz de los Sin Voz de la Casa Anunciación en El Paso, Texas; la Asociación de Periodistas de Países Bajos le otorgó el Hans Verploeg Memorial Fund y Reporteros sin Fronteras la incluyó en su lista de "100 héroes de la información". Fue seleccionada dos veces como fellow del Investigative Reporting Program de la Universidad de California en Berkeley para los periodos 2014-2015 y 2015-2016. Ha colaborado con The Guardian, Le Monde, La Repubblica, La Stampa, Reforma, Proceso, Univisión y Telemundo. En Grijalbo ha publicado La familia presidencial (2005, en coautoría con Areli Quintero), Fin de fiesta en Los Pinos (2006), Los cómplices del presidente (2008), Los señores del narco (2010) y México en llamas (2012).
