'Leigh, My Amazing Son' provides an insight into the life of a child born with a severe physical disability. Charlene tells the story of her youngest son, Leigh, from his birth to his sudden tragic passing in 2016.
Follow Leigh and his family as they undergo many surgical procedures, some of which have unfavorable outcomes. Charlene describes how they deal with Leigh's frequent seizures and chronic pressure sores caused by progressive scoliosis. As well as their efforts to enroll Leigh in mainstream education and, subsequent to that, to obtain employment despite discrimination.
This book is also dedicated to improving the quality of patient care. Inadvertently, Leigh played an integral role in this endeavor. The Consensus Resuscitation Plan and accompanying information sheet on CPR, which are used by two major hospitals in Melbourne, Australia, have been revised based on Leigh's experiences within the hospital system.
