In 1954, the US Supreme Court ruled that racial segregation in public schools violated the civil rights of Black schoolchildren. The brilliant and courageous lawyer behind that ruling, Thurgood Marshall, became the Court's first Black justice in 1967 and continues to inspire decades later.
