At a moment when the United States is reassessing its own
democratic tensions, Letters from Venezuela offers a perspective
born in a country that has endured-sooner and with greater
intensity-the fractures that now unsettle consolidated political systems.
Written from Caracas, these letters do not seek to explain the
exceptionalism of a petro-state; rather, they connect national experience
with the global debate on freedom, citizenship, development,
and power.
The book combines intellectual rigor, serenity, and pedagogical
clarity-a public ethic essential for navigating the complexities of
the twenty-first century. Its architecture brings together key fields-
political economy, democratic theory, moral philosophy, civic pedagogy,
and historical analysis-and, through an epistolary narrative
that avoids stridency, recovers a reflective and civil tone rarely found
in times of polarization. It examines how a state is captured, how citizens
resist, and which principles can guide the restoration of a republic
grounded on solid institutions and a possibilist hope: the capacity
to identify real options for freedom even amid collapse.
This is not simply a book about Venezuela; it is a reflection on the
creation and stewardship of a social order in which we can live with
dignity. It invites the reader to observe their own environment from
a clarifying distance, reconsidering the Republic as a shared project
to which foreign support, if ever required, must remain temporary,
like scaffolding; for freedom is not tutored-it is built from the sovereignty
of those who inhabit the house.
