Burton has lived in the South for most of her life, working as a special education teacher for four decades - a dozen years in Tuskegee, Alabama, and twenty-eight in Greenville, SC. In retirement she has had a number of her poems published in literary magazines including Atlanta Review, Illuminations, Potpourri, Main Street Rag, Kalliope and The Licking River Review, among others.
