This charming poetry book is a love letter to grandparents.
Full of warmth - like a big poetic hug - this evocative poetry collection celebrates the bond between grandparent and child. Inspired by childhood memories of her grandparents, Vicky Arthurs' vivid, tender poems capture the joy of time spent together and wonders shared. There are poignant remembrances too, and moving scenes from her grandparents' lives, which spanned two World Wars.
It's a captivating read for anyone with fond memories of being a grandchild - and it's a great gift for a grandmother or grandfather. Arthurs writes with affection, honesty and gentle humour. Her simple, accessible poetry has an easy rhythm - you can read it aloud or enjoy it alone. Her poems are immediate and infused with a sense of place. They touch on themes of family love, war, nature and the innocence of childhood.
From free verse to poetic forms - short as haiku or long as a ballad - the forty poems in this book fall into four sections. Each part begins with a beautiful title illustration by British printmaker Kate Heiss.
