A gripping diary that recounts the final moments of the Führer from his return to Berlin on January 15, 1945, until his death on April 30.
The last months of World War II in Europe were the most brutal and destructive period of the entire conflict--also the most chaotic and least known. On average, thirty thousand people lost their lives daily on various fronts, in bombed cities, in refugee convoys fleeing the Red Army, on ships risking passage through the Baltic Sea, in prisons and concentration camps, on trains, and along the roads used to evacuate deportees.
Hitler was the main architect of this orgy of death and destruction. Weakened by illness, cornered, questioned or despised by his own people, and forced to live under bombardment in a damp bunker, he continued fueling the flames until the very end.
