We have created an image concerning the maternal experience in which we should only feel happiness, but the reality is quite different: feeling fear, sadness, guilt, and even frustration is also very common while nurturing a baby. You are not alone. Indeed, we don't have enough space where we can talk about everything that happens to us, the ups and downs of motherhood, and the whole range of nuances in between. This book is an honest journey through the emotions that accompany pregnancy like childbirth, postpartum, and, sometimes, mourning. It is born from my own experience as a mother of two girls and my sessions with many mothers in therapy. I hope that you find relief reading it, that you understand your emotions a little more instead of silencing them, and that you do not judge yourself for your feelings. I hope that with this reading you learn to take care and accept yourself amid so much change.
Author Biography
Ester López Turrillo es madre de dos niñas, psicóloga perinatal y especialista en estudios de género. Su propia maternidad le mostró lo invisibilizada y poco valorada que está la experiencia materna tanto en la psicología como en el feminismo. Un primer embarazo y parto marcados por la violencia obstétrica fueron el detonante que la empujó a centrar sus objetivos en cuidar y proteger la salud mental de las madres durante el embarazo, la preparación al parto, el posparto y los posibles duelos.
Lleva más de siete años ayudando a mujeres a encontrar calma, conexión y seguridad en las diferentes etapas de la maternidad. En las redes sociales divulga sobre duelo, trauma, miedo, ansiedad, malestar, culpa..., experiencias que son comunes a muchas madres pero que siguen invisibilizadas.
