Maternity is a period during pregnancy and shortly after childbirth. During birth, the newborns may have complications like lack of oxygen, birth trauma and infections. They are also at a high risk of getting infected by diseases like neonatal jaundice, infant respiratory distress syndrome, neonatal conjunctivitis, neonatal sepsis, etc. The period after childbirth is known as the postpartum period, and in this period the mother's body, its hormone levels and uterus size, return to non-pregnant size.
